| The new Stylus Tough 8000 waterproof digital camera is a very significant upgrade from the older Stylus 720sw waterproof digital camera that I reviewed previously. Megapixels have increased from 7 MP to 12 MP. The tiny power on/off button has been replaced by a larger button that is easier to operate. A rotating dial has been added in the new model for easier selection of photo shooting modes. The buttons for changing camera settings have been reorganized into a nice system that is easier to learn. |

My analysis of the Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 waterproof camera.
A reviewer at amazon.com has complained about the soft focus of the pictures produced by the Stylus Tough 8000 waterproof camera. When I use IrfanView software for editing these pictures it is quick & easy to apply the sharpening tool to produce nice, crisp pictures that are perfectly fine for my needs. I was very happy with my 720, but then a piece broke away around the lens on front. Sent back to Olympus and they replaced with the Tough 8000 instead - nice customer service! Great cameras to be able to have on the water all the time without worrying too much about it.

The Olympus 8000 flooded with my first underwater experience. Yes it was salt water. After ten minutes or so underwater (never more than 1 meter deep) and getting to know the camera, bubbles started to show in the viewer and all was over.
How unfortunate that your model 8000 leaked during your first underwater use! Do you think that the leakage in your camera was operator error or a manufacturing defect? Since the camera leaked on its first use, then were you able to get a refund or replacement via warranty?
My friend & I have had great success with our Olympus waterproof cameras. They get wet frequently and haven't leaked yet. Anybody else who has had good or bad experiences with these waterproof cameras please add your comments here.

Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 is a decent looking camera and has very good features. It is a 12 mp camera and is water and shockproof. The camera is available in black blue and silver colors. It is very easy to use and very comfortable for shooting. The photo quality is average, nothing great. Performance wise, its a bit slow but if durability matters to you, then this is the best option.
