Hey, I just went down the Big Sur River Feb. 28, 2010 with a buddy. Flows were around 600 cfs at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and nearing 1000 cfs at the ocean. Awesome trip! swift water, brushy, with 2 mandatory logjam portages that you must pay attention to notice. At the one island towards the bottom, we went left and that was the wrong choice, as there was a 3rd log jammed at head level in the middle of a wave train! We walked boats to the right channel and went from there - the right channel was brushy but better.

The II+ rapid was easy and fun, and the III cement drop was worth scouting and at a perfect level to run (had a 6' wide target area tongue to ride down). A beautiful stretch with more tribs running than expected, one a waterfall pouring directly into the river! Hoping to run it again soon at a slightly lower level (350-500 cfs).

Thanks for the trip report!!

Please keep me posted on your kayaking trips. It is nice to have recent information, especially about the smaller rivers and creeks, because they can vary so much from year to year due to logjams, brush growing in the channel, etc.
